A few months ago I got a call from an old friend Vini Contreas , an American musician singer songwriter who I met over 40 years ago when we were both playing venues, coffee houses across the Ottawa region. Vin was an accomplished singer songwriter from Danverse Mass. near Boston We became friends throughout his time spent in Ottawa, and had not seen or heard from each other over 40 some years. He contacted me and to my surprise had discovered a tape that he had recorded on a portastudio with half a dozen songs I had played . Not sure where it was recorded but the quality of the recording was such that he suggested I release it. He thought it was brilliant and I should call the session "The Lost Tapes". Vini sent me the wave files of the complete session . Two of the songs, Walk On By and Dancing Under The Moon I had forgotten while others I still perform occasionally but overall they display the qualities of a burgeoning songwriter who in those days was developing his craft.The songs rendered on this recording are the original wave audio files, raw unpolished and other than a few edits to eliminate tape pre roll between tracks, are as they were recorded complete with some quiet chatter here and there. Vin basically said "Ok ready... and my performances are a one take with no overdubs or punch ins. As I reflect the songs were written and recorded during the halcyon days All songs are self penned except for Miracle Man written by Canadian singer songwriter the late Bob Carpenter. The photo was taken circa 1980 in a courtyard off York St. in the Byward Market Ottawa. I hope you enjoy the Lost Tapes.
